Roger D. Carstens, President of Obsidian, is a distinguished diplomat and retired U.S. Army Special Forces Lieutenant Colonel. A graduate of West Point, Carstens served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor and later as Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs (2020–2025) under Presidents Trump and Biden.

Carstens played a pivotal role in securing the release of numerous Americans held hostage abroad, including Brittney Griner, Trevor Reed, and the Citgo Six. With extensive experience in national security, international diplomacy, and high-stakes negotiations, he offers Obsidian clients unmatched expertise in navigating complex geopolitical and regulatory environments.

Christoper Miller

Christopher C. Miller, Principal of Obsidian, bringing decades of leadership in national security, defense, and counterterrorism. He served as Acting Secretary of Defense from November 2020 to January 2021, following key roles as Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism (SOCT).

A retired U.S. Army Special Forces officer, Mr. Miller commanded the 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and participated in combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council, shaping U.S. counterterrorism strategy at the highest levels.
